Letters, 1829(?)-1856.

The collection comprises nine letters. Five of them were sent to David Ramsay Hay from 1845 July 27 to 1848 July 20 (23 pages). The artist was interested in Hay's theory that organic forms are "made up of combinations of the ellipse," which is very close to Harding's opinion that "ovoid curves are the true forms." They exchange information on the subject. A four page letter, probably from 1848 July 19, includes two pages of comments on Hay's decoration of the Society of Arts great room, with suggestions of improvements that would "add brilliancy to the effects of the whole."
